Backpacking is an activity that is almost a rite of passage for people in college or those deciding to take some time off after college. Traveling is something that is not done by a lot of student due to its expense, perceived danger and the effort it takes to plan a trip. Luckily, planning a backpacking trip has become much easier to plan.

Cheap international flights have made backpacking more affordable. There are also numerous resources around the world that help to make the dream of traveling through Europe or South America a fun reality. Because backpacking around the world becoming more budget friendly, many students are able to plan a trip that is within their budgets. These excursions allow people to make new friends, meet new cultures and create life-long memories.

One of the more difficult decisions make when planning a trip is deciding what part of the world to visit. The idea of sipping a cappuccino along the canals of Venice and laid back atmosphere of Amsterdam makes Europe a highly-popular destination for students. The only complaints about going to Europe are the crowds. Ironically, as Europe becomes more accessible, the prices in Europe are on the rise, but luckily, there is a number of holiday packages that are made affordable by travel companies and agencies just for this purpose.

The advantages of traveling to Europe include safe cities, a lot of entertaining activities and courteous people. People traveling on a budget will enjoy the unique experiences to be had in not as well-traveled areas of Europe. Eastern Europe is full of adventure and less expensive. Other locations like East Asia, the southern part of Africa and South America are also known for their relatively low costs.

The next step in planning is to decide the duration of the trip. There are pros and cons to planning a long trip or a short trip.

Shorter excursions tend to cost less and give travelers just enough time for simple sightseeing in several cities. Unfortunately, planning a multiple-destination trip in less time does not let travelers enjoy themselves. Long trips will require more money, but travelers get more time to explore the cities they are visiting. Longer trips allow people to explore the city’s culture and people. There are some programs that students can participate in that help reduce the costs of a longer trip. WWOOFing lets people work in an exotic location in exchange for free room and board. A lot of students take advantage of these programs to get a once in a lifetime chance to be immersed in a foreign culture.

The WWOOFing program and others like it are a few options that students interested in international travel should research. Some students find ways to use these programs to travel for little to no cost.

Guide books and the internet are good resources to make planning a trip easier. They are great ways to find hostels, restaurants and a source to find events taking place in the destination city.

The internet is also a good place for find offers for cheap flights and other accommodations. It should be noted that hostels should be thoroughly researched; they are not all the same. Some are offer bare minimum accommodations, while others have the atmosphere of a luxury resort. Travelers should also talk to other backpackers. They are invaluable resources when it comes to travel advice. Fellow backpackers can even become good friends to keep in touch with after the trip.

There is very little question that over the last decade or so the tourism industry in Prague has spiraled rapidly, and has now risen to a level where the city of Prague can arguably be considered one of the best holiday destinations in Europe. If you visit this exciting but historic city then you will find a superb mix of history, culture, nightlife and dining experiences that are seldom matched in any other locations in Central Europe. Both accommodation, food and drinking out in the city are all relatively inexpensive although prices will be higher in areas with high tourist density such as St Wenceslas Square – but move away from these areas and you can be drinking bottles of Czech pilsner for next to nothing. In order to seek out the best places to visit before you plan your trip to Prague, why not check out an online travel guide to Europe to see what great places there are to eat out and party the night away until the early hours. One club not to be missed is the Karlovy Lazne – now established as the biggest club in central Europe but still an extremely affordable nightspot for backpackers and holidaymakers alike.

To many people, St. Vitus Cathedral is Prague Castle. While the enormous Prague Castle complex includes many fine buildings, St. Vitus is the one that dominates the city skyline and is visible from far and wide.

St. Vitus is the spiritual symbol of the Czech state. A Gothic masterpiece, work on the cathedral was commissioned by Charles IV and began in 1344 upon the site of an earlier 10th century rotunda. In all, it took nearly six centuries to complete.

Its first builders, Matthias of Arras and later Peter Parler, built the chancel with a ring of chapels, St. Wenceslas Chapel, the Golden Portal and the lower part of the main steeple.

The final phase of construction only ended during the period 1873-1929.

As well as being the largest and most important temple in Prague, St. Vitus Cathedral also oversaw the coronations of Czech kings and queens.

In the chancel of the cathedral, in front of the high alter, is the royal mausoleum. Below this, in the crypt, there are the royal tombs. Czech kings and queens and patron saints are interred here.

St. Wenceslas Chapel is decorated with frescoes and semi-precious stones. A door in the south-western corner of the chapel leads to the Crown Chamber in which the Bohemian Coronation Jewels are stored.

Prague Sightseeing Tour Boat Trip

Of all our sightseeing tours, the Prague Grand City Sightseeing Tour is our most popular, providing a superb introduction to this beautiful city.

After picking you up from your Prague accommodation, we embark upon a fascinating journey through the history of Prague, an enchanting city with over 4,000 monuments.

This sightseeing excursion is part by air-conditioned coach, part on foot.

We begin on the coach, introducing the major historical areas of the city centre: the New Town & Wenceslas Square, the Old Town and picturesque Mala Strana.

Next is the highlight of the trip, a walk through the Prague Castle complex to discover the major sights within; admire the grandeur of Saint Vitus Cathedral, the ancient architecture of the Old Royal Palace, and enjoy stunning views over the whole of Prague.

From Prague Castle we head for the river, for a short boat trip through the city centre. We enjoy close up views of the waterside attractions, as we sail right under Charles Bridge. The boat provides an ideal opportunity to relax, with a coffee or a beer from the bar. The boat is covered and warm in the winter, so is comfortable all year round.

Back on dry land, we continue our Prague tour with the Jewish Quarter (Josefov), before ending the tour at the Old Town Square. En-route, we learn the origins of one of the best preserved medieval cities in the world.

Tip: the boat trip on this tour covers just the most central area of Prague, whereas our regular river cruises sail much further. If you wish to, you can book both this tour and a dinner cruise and experience totally different things.

Prague Experience sightseeing tours are in English and another language. They are led by professional, licensed tourist guides and use modern, air-conditioned mini-coaches.

If you require a tour in French, German, Italian, Russian or Spanish, please specify on the booking form.

The tour finishes at a convenient point in the city centre, near the Old Town Square. Highly recommended.
