Lavka sits right on the banks of the River Vltava, next to Charles Bridge, and offers stunning views up to Prague Castle. This supreme location attracts a lively tourist-heavy crowd, although Czechs also view this as good club to party the night away.

The music is hardly cutting edge, more party music – Lavka covers everything from 60’s to today’s best dance tunes.

A popular feature of the club is the dancing girls. As each girl takes their turn on the podium, the crowd of admirers just grows and grows. This part is popular with Prague stag parties!

In the summer, Lavka’s great riverside terrace at the rear is packed with revellers, enjoying the views over the water in the open air, the cool draught Pilsner, and swaying to the music.

To many people, St. Vitus Cathedral is Prague Castle. While the enormous Prague Castle complex includes many fine buildings, St. Vitus is the one that dominates the city skyline and is visible from far and wide.

St. Vitus is the spiritual symbol of the Czech state. A Gothic masterpiece, work on the cathedral was commissioned by Charles IV and began in 1344 upon the site of an earlier 10th century rotunda. In all, it took nearly six centuries to complete.

Its first builders, Matthias of Arras and later Peter Parler, built the chancel with a ring of chapels, St. Wenceslas Chapel, the Golden Portal and the lower part of the main steeple.

The final phase of construction only ended during the period 1873-1929.

As well as being the largest and most important temple in Prague, St. Vitus Cathedral also oversaw the coronations of Czech kings and queens.

In the chancel of the cathedral, in front of the high alter, is the royal mausoleum. Below this, in the crypt, there are the royal tombs. Czech kings and queens and patron saints are interred here.

St. Wenceslas Chapel is decorated with frescoes and semi-precious stones. A door in the south-western corner of the chapel leads to the Crown Chamber in which the Bohemian Coronation Jewels are stored.

From Prague Castle we head for the river, for a short boat trip through the city centre. We enjoy close up views of the waterside attractions, as we sail right under Charles Bridge. Back on dry land, we continue our Prague tour with the Jewish Quarter (Josefov), before ending the tour at the Old Town Square. En-route, we learn the origins of one of the best preserved medieval cities in the world.

Tip: the boat trip on this tour covers just the most central area of Prague, whereas our regular river cruises sail much further. If you wish to, you can book both this tour and a dinner cruise and experience totally different things.

Description

In one of the most historically significant areas of Prague (Vyšehrad), the Arcadia Residence combines the comfort of hotel services with the independence and intimacy of an apartment. It was in Vyšehrad, which is considered to be the first settlement in the Bohemian capital, that Princess Libuše prophesied the birth „of a great city, whose fame will spread throughout the world“.

This quarter has preserved an authentic Prague atmosphere and an envious tranquillity, despite it being close to the areas most frequented by mass tourism. The Old City and Charles Bridge are in fact easily reachable on public transport in about five-ten minutes.

The building which hosts the residence dates back to 1896 and has recently been restructured following rigorous quality standards in respect of Italian tradition. The artefact now on display in the reception area offers a suggestive testimony of the past. It was found inside a bottle during the restoration work. This is a message from a worker involved in the building’s construction more than a hundred years ago.

The care paid to the details and furniture, in the style of the early part of the last century, give the apartments, which are of various sizes, a „homely“ feel which characterises the Residence, also thanks to careful and friendly family management. The limited number of apartments helps guarantee guests a peaceful stay. But mainly this allows us to treat you warmly and to offer you special attention.
