My wife and I stayed at the Golden Well in July with our 15-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old friend and could not have had a better experience. From the initial reception, including a tour of the hotel, complimentary drinks, hot towels, etc., to the afternoon cocktails, to the whirlpool bath, to the robe and slippers, we enjoyed every minute of our stay.

The staff was incredibly helpful, including Masa, Denis, Ayman and Stanislav (who showed us how to get the whirlpool working) and we also appreciated the other amenities, such as free use of a color printer.

The location right under the castle is amazing and from our room you could see the office of the president of the Czech Republic right above us and the roofs and spires of Prague in the distance. The rooms, by the way, were lovely and more than big enough.

In addition to being right by the castle, the Charles Bridge is only a 5-10 minute walk away. But the rest of the Little Quarter area near the hotel is charming and well worth exploring.

We ate dinner at the Terasa restaurant one night and it was expensive but excellent and the view is amazing. And I’d also like to put in a plug for Vinná Muška, the little wine bar near the hotel. Good wine at incredibly reasonable prices.

Our trip to Prague was my 40th birthday present from my husband and U Zlate Studne made it the perfect present. Perched on the hillside just below the castle one has magnificent views over the roof tops of Prague. The hotel is positioned away from the masses and noise but is close enough to walk every where. The hotel is small and personal and the service is outstanding. The staff here cant seem to do enough for you. I loved the little extras, such as the bottle of red wine and cheese platter in our room when we arrived and also the drinks and snacks which were served in their “Library” at 4pm, where everyone gathers to chat about their day over a glass of wine or bubbly and a delectable snack…….or two…. or three. Their pride and attention to detail could be seen in the smallest of things. This hotel is in a league of its own and I can highly recommend it.

We had booked two nights at Golden well Hotel in Prague. We agree with what has been commented at trip advisor, good hospitality, and good food. THe view from the roof top restraunt is quite amazing. When we checked in, we had half hour tour of the hotel including the welcoming drink at the roof top terrace. We will recommend to any one who are planning to stay at plague.

  4. Prague Hotels Says:

We really liked this hotel. Its in a great (and interesting) location, and is convenient to most of Prague’s sites. The service was excellent – they really do everything they can to make sure you’re enjoying your stay, including chocolates and wine upon arrival. (We got upgraded to a slightly better room, which had a fantastic view of the gardens and city). We also used the car service to and from the airport/train station, which, while slightly more expensive than a cab, was a very nice service, especially since we had an early morning train out of Prague. The hotel restaurant is lovely as well — good food and an amazing view of Prague. I highly recommend this hotel for people traveling to Prague.

  5. Prague Hotels Says:

We chose this hotel primarily because of its number 1 spot on Trip Advisor and because we like boutique hotels in central locations. The Golden Well certainly didn’t disappoint. Although we travel widely and enjoy good hotels, we felt that this was the best, most personal service we had ever received. It merits its five stars on every criterion, the only reason I’ve given it four for value is that it is not an inexpensive option although in our opinion it was worth it.

We had planned a family get-together and each of our three rooms was different. While the rooms weren’t particularly large, they were immaculate and very well furnished. One had beautiful views of the city; one had a lovely painted ceiling; and one had a separate hallway and looked out over the narrow cobbled entrance street.

We enjoyed all the extra touches including the handmade chocolates on arrival, the fruit bowl, the ipod and the Molton Brown amenities. We have never before had slippers in two different colours – a neat touch – and a morning news sheet specially selected according to your home country. The Concierge Room with constant tea and coffee, evening drinks and canapes and use of a computer was also very welcome.

The introductory show-round we were given on arrival was very helpful, ending with a drink and canapes in the restaurant.

We do not normally choose to eat in hotel restaurants but were glad we made this an exception. The food was excellent and we recommend you make a reservation as much in advance as possible as it was fully booked while we were there. (The buffet breakast was also excellent.) The staff also recommended other restaurants to us and we were very pleased with our choice of the Blue Duck.

We strongly recommend the transportation service to and from the airport, particularly after hearing tales of unscrupulous cab drivers.

This was intended as a treat weekend for us and our family and all six of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Our only regret was that we were only there for four nights.

We know why the Golden Well is rated #1!

The Golden Well is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in during our travels throughout Europe. This lovely hotel is well located, adjoining the Prague Castle and spectacular gardens, with vista views across the rooftops of the beautiful city of Prague.

The “icing on the cake” for this beautiful boutique hotel is the exceptional service from the start to finish of your stay. It’s very clear right from the moment you arrive that the staff of the Golden Well takes a sincere and personal pride in that all of their guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay! Our room was spotless, beautifully decorated and luxuriously comfortable.
If you book a reservation at the hotel, it is a must to include a dinner reservation at the Rooftop Terrace restaurant. The food is a culinary delight! We enjoyed a wonderful dinner prepared by award winning executive chef, Pavel Sapik, including stellar service from his excellent staff. Along with the outstanding six course dinner we were served that evening…it included a panoramic view of Prague’s glorious sunset and twinkling city lights.

We can’t wait to return again to this delightful hotel and will definitely recommend the Golden Well to all of our friends and associates planning a visit to the lovely city of Prague.

We had a great honeymoon celebration in Prague. The Golden Well Hotel were great and we definitely enjoyed our vacation. Hotel & staff were great, we were really happy with our stay but we had some problems with romantic escape package.

Airport pickup service arrived late. Our previosly arranged romantic dinner was forgotten by restaurant staff. The meal was delicious and we enjoyed it. Thanks to the chef of the restaurant, we thought that the chef deserves all of the awards he/she gained. However, it was just a dinner with great food and bad organization. Finally, strawberries and champaigne is forgotten and i had to go upstairs to the restaurant. reminded them we are waiting..

Everything else was great; bed was cosy, pillow menu was interesting, bed making and romantic bath was perfect. And we loved roses. Although we had some problems with restaurant we delighted our stay in Golden Well Hotel.

  8. Prague Hotels Says:

We just spent several days here at the Golden Well, and completely agree with all other top rating reviewers–this is a gem. I was prepared for the reviews to be off–I was pleasantly suprised that the hotel was as described in every way–staff (always smiling and eager to help), room (spotless and beautifuly appointed), grounds (superb views all over), food (continental breakfast was one of the best we’ve seen, and the Terrace Restaurant, while expensive, was delightful). We can unequivocally recommend the Golden Well and fervently hope that the “magic” stays here! One big point for us: Prague is jammed with tourists–the Golden Well, less than 10 minutes walk from the Charles Bridge is a very welcome respite.

  9. Prague Hotels Says:

Seeing that this hotel was ranked first out of over 600 hotels in Prague meant that they must have beat out a lot of other beautiful, sumptuous, and well-placed properties in a jewelbox of a city. I decided to book rooms here for a visit with my parents and partner, and it was, in a word, brilliant. The service is unlike anything I’ve experienced in any other country (except for Thailand, perhaps) – they bend over backwards to make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

The property itself is gorgeous, with the most amazing views from the breakfast room. The breakfast is divine – you can opt to pay for an additional cooked breakfast, but the spread that’s included with your tariff is so extensive and delicious that it doesn’t seem necessary. There are countless nice touches – the welcome pralines & fresh fruit, the afternoon drinks and gourmet snacks, the molton brown bath amenities, the bedside ipod speakers (complete with ipod!)… the list goes on. The jacuzzi bath is brilliant, though it took a little experimentation to get it to work! The only thing missing, I would say, is a shower.

Other hotels throughout Europe should take note of U Zlate Studne and study this paragon of customer service and hotel perfection. Highly recommended.

  10. Prague Hotels Says:

This was our first trip to Prague, and based on Trip Advisors reviews I booked this hotel for my wife’s Birthday and our Anniversary. I booked the 3 day romantic package, and was not disappointed with the level of service that came with it.

We had a private pick-up at the airport with a friendly and informative driver, and from our arrival at the hotel we were transformed into a oasis of luxury. The bellboy handed us cold minted towels, then whisked our bags away to our room. Based on a previousTrip Advisor review I booked Room 32, which was clean, spacious and most importanty has unpresidented views of Prague. To mention a few amenities the room has, are a Plasma TV, DVD, Ipod and docking station, whirl pool bath, bathrobes and slippers.

As a special surprise within our room we received a cake from the Manager to celebrate our special occassions. We also had a dozen red roses (romantic package).

We were given a tour of the hotel, which on route took us to the roof terrace where we were given a complimentary drink and a sample of Chef Pavel Sapík culinary delights. There is a lounge area that serves finger foods and drinks between 4pm and 6pm. At reception there is a DVD library to suit all taste, money exchange facility and they can inform you of restaurant choices/menus.

After a long day of travelling and exploring our surroundings we returned to our room to further aspects of our Romantic Package, which was a pre-prepared hot whirl pool bath with roses, candles, champagne and strawberries. This was followed by our delightful evening meal at Terasa, the hotels open roof top restaurant. Every evening we received a turn down service with special romantic surprises (refer to picture)

The hotel is located in a quiet location, slightly uphill on a cobbled street, which all of Prague seems to be built on (A word of advice, ladies forget those heels !)

Most places of interest are a short stroll away. We booked a 6 hour tour which involved walking, a boat trip and tram ride to the castle, a worthy experience.

Ayman (conceige/front desk) recommended David’s restaurant for one of evening meals, and we were not disappointed. Excellent service, food and drink. You’ll love the glasses for your complimentary final drink !

I could write forever, but to summarise I would say that this has to be one of the best hotels in Europe. The hotel service and personal attention is of exceptional standard and is very highly recommended. Book it now !!

PS. Ayman, this is the Hyatt’s review.

  11. Prague Hotels Says:

The Golden Well Hotel made our stay in the wonderful city of Prague most enjoyable! We have stayed in nice boutique hotels around Europe, and this rates at the very top of our list. It is intimate, only 19 rooms, which are impeccably maintained. The outside terraces are perfect for relaxing and viewing Prague from above the city. The service is incredible, with a staff that is SO friendly and attentive. Everything was taken care of for us – starting with being greeted at the airport then booking a great guide, getting tickets to music events and tours outside of Prague. Afternoon wine and hors d’oeuvres, and breakfasts with an incredible view over Prague were so enjoyable. The private entrance to the Castle gardens from the top floor is the best way to get to the castle. We loved the quiet but very convenient location and looked forward to returning after our explorations of Prague. We were very glad to be in “little town” versus “old town”, which is extremely busy. EVERYTHING about the Golden Well exceeded our expectations and we left feeling that we had found friends in Prague!

  12. Prague Hotels Says:

We are very frequent travelers but have never made the effort to write a review, however this hotel deserves the time to make a few comments. Great location on a quiet dead-end cobblestone street, just a five-minute walk from many of the best places a visitor would want to see in Prague. There is even a gate at the rooftop restaurant that connects to the palace gardens. Our room had a great view over the city and the restaurant offers an even better one to enjoy over an excellent dinner. The room was nicely furnished, roomy and very comfortable, and the maid service excellent. The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The city of Prague was great, the Czech people were friendly, and this hotel made our vacation an

We have just returned from a very brief trip to Prague during which we were fortunate to spend our two nights at the Golden Well. My husband booked the trip as a surprise for my birthday and booked the hotel based on the Trip Advisor reviews. We were not disappointed in any way. The hotel arranged a pick up service from the airport at a very reasonable cost and we were met by a friendly, polite driver who took our bags for us and drove us as close to the hotel as it is possible to get (there is a 50 yard walk up a cobbled street to get to the entrance.

On arrival, although our room was not ready we were warmly welcomed and given a tour of the hotel and some history of the building and Prage and a complimentary drink on the terrace. On checking in to our room, it was immaculately clean and comfortable and the small touches made it really special – fruit in the room, a weather forecast card provided each evening with the turndown service, an iphone sound system, whirlpool bath and underfloor heating in the bathroom not to mention the most comfortable bed I have ever had in a hotel! There was also a pillow menu to choose from but we were more than happy with the one provided as standard.

The whole hotel is fresh and clean and the service is faultless and very personal. Without exception all of the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable.

Every afternoon between 4pm and 6pm the hotel provides complimentary drinks and snacks in the lounge area. These were very welcome after a long day sightseeing and also very tasty! Breakfast is fantastic with everything from smoked salmon to danish pastries and also some Czech specialities. There is a cooked breakfast menu if you choose at additional cost but the included breakfast was more than enough for us.

We ate in the restaurant on our second night and the food was first class and the portions were very good for a restaurant of this quality. The food is very delicious but quite rich so sadly we had no room for desert. The view from the open air restaurant terrace is stunning. Our only comment on the restaurant is to check the prices before ordering drinks – the champagne by the glass is pretty expensive compared to home but the food is good value.

A problem with the air conditioning in our room on the second day was dealt with very effiiciently and we were upgraded to a deluxe room, which was even more luxurious than the first. No complaints at all.

The location of the hotel is great, in a quiet area near the castle and a 10 minute walk from the Charles Bridge. Probably not for you if you want to go clubbing every night but perfect if you are looking for an escape from the crowds and some peace and quiet.

We have no hesitation at all in recommending this hotel (as long as their is room for us when we want to go back!

  14. Prague Hotels Says:

We just came back from a wonderful trip to Prague and had the pleasure of staying at the Golden Well Hotel. We booked the hotel based upon the Trip Advisor ratings and were not disappointed. The location is the best in all of Prague. The hotel overlooks the Prague skyline and backs onto the castle with a private gate which is a nice feature. It is a 5-minute walk to the Charles Bridge so you are within walking distance of everything.

We received excellent directions from the hotel on getting there which we did via the bus & metro which was no problem at all. When they heard us coming up the cobblestone walkway (all of Prague is cobblestones) they raced to help us with our bags. We had a lovely room and view. The room was spotless including the bathroom.

The best feature was the wake up call. First there was the phone call and then within 5 minutes there was a knock at the door with complimentary hot coffee/milk and two pastries. We felt very indulged having coffee in bed. The upstairs breakfast buffet was very nice and has a wonderful view of the city. You also had a choice of an ala carte menu which we did not use as we are not big breakfast eaters but it looked lovely.

The restaurant is one floor higher with extraordinary views of the city. The food was lovely. Yes it cost more than a local eatery but was worth the price just for the lovely view. Having delicious food made it all the better. You should have at least one dinner here.

The hotel service is impecable & but not snooty. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone who is looking for a quiet small hotel with excellent service and personal attention. You cannot beat it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Prague Hotels Says:

Enough has been written about the very special charm of The Golden Well so may I add just two possible bonus’. Please try to experience the special cooking of Chef Pavil Sapik on the roof top terrace, and if you can possibly afford it, splurge on the Rudolf II suite. The suite has two magnificent views, one over the entire city, and another of the castle and it’s magnicent gardens. The suite is very quiet and has a seperate WC and bathroom. The terrace restaurant menu features quite reasonable prices considering the ingredients and their freshness, the careful preperation, and the artful presentations! ENJOY!

  16. Prague Hotels Says:

From check in to check out everything was just perfect, all the staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive, our room was beautiful, comfortable, quiet and spotlessly clean, more than enough supplies of Molton Brown in our lovely bathroom.
The service and food at breakfast was excellent as was our superb meal on the gorgeous terrace restaurant with fabulous views over the town. We have stayed in many 5star hotels around the world and The Golden Well certainly rates in our top 5 and we will definately be returning.
Location was good with easy access to the castle and 10 minutes walk to Charles bridge and the town square with access to boat ridesand horse and carriage rides
air balloons and all the lovely little shops along the cobbled streets, it did help as we had the most beautiful weather all weekend.
Just a word of advice 5ins heels are not the best thing to wear, trainers are much more sensible as it is quite steep in parts, we are not youngsters anymore but certainly came back fitter than when we went and will most certainly do it again.

  17. Prague Hotels Says:

Faultless limousine service from the airport
Wonderful, fully-informed welcome – with a late-night buffet tray in our immaculate room.
Stylish decor, incredibly comfortable beds. Panoramic view of the city.
Restaurant was perfect – food & service excellent.
Staff are friendly, helpful and charming
The hotel is minutes away from all the main landmarks yet is a peaceful haven.
    We shall be back !

  18. Prague Hotels Says:

We booked The Golden Well for our honeymoon after checking it out on tripadvisor. We can honestly say that the reviews we read were spot on. This is a fantastic hotel! We were made to feel so welcome and were given that special sort of attention you so rarely come across nowadays. We seldom go to the same place twice, but we have decided to go back there before not too long. Our sincere thanks to all the staff there for helping to make our stay in Prague so memorable.

  19. Prague Hotels Says:

We had 2 nights at the Golden Well at the start of our holiday. It was perfect, from the moment we arrived and were greeted by Ayman. He showed us around the hotel like old friends and then treated us to a welcome drink and nibbles on the terrace. The hotel’s situation, rooms, wonderful restaurant and most of all every one of their staff made this a very special break. One we hope to repeat!.

My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at the Golden Well. We have stayed in many other 5 star hotels in the world and none compare to the quality of serivce attention to even the smallest detail the golden well staff give you. the room was amazing hated to leave it. Views unbeleivable meals of such great taste a meal we will always remember overlooking the city and the castle. I really enjoyed the terrace where you could have quiet time and enjoy the city at your feet. The step right into the castle gardens. They wrote us a beatiful note and gave us a amazing cake. we will always cheish our time at the golden well and the highest level of care each staff member gave us. The other 5 star hotels can learn alot from Golden well. This is the place you must stay while in Prague. You will have amazing memories of it. We hope to one day return!! bedding amazing with a pillow menu.. amazing

  21. Prague Hotels Says:

The Golden Well provided the most romantic, perfect base from which to discover a beautiful city. The environment was without fault, it was totally perfect and the staff could not have been more polite and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to absolutely everyone and anyone. It is in the most perfect position and setting just below the castle, I can’t sing loud enough… it is just lovely.

  22. Prague Hotels Says:

I never understood why vacationers truly enjoyed staying in hotels… until now. The other reviews are 100% correct. If this hotel is booked when you are in Prague, you need to change your travel plans. I can not imagine staying anywhere else. Our two children, ages 18 and 9, literally looked forward to returning to their hotel room at the end of the day. It was one of the highlights of their European vacation. I did not see many tripadvisor reviews from families with children. Thus, I was nervous that this hotel may be too sophisticated for my kids. Not to worry. The Golden Well far exceeded every expectation. We felt like we were living in a small, private castle. My children raved about the breakfast buffet, the location of the hotel (with the secret path to the Castle), the cobblestone streets, the private taxi service to and from the airport, the incredible views from their room, the comfy beds and beautiful furnishings, the free happy hour treats (a different surprise every day) served in a cozy public room, the fluffy bathrobes, the free DVD rentals, the friendly and helpful staff, the jacuzzi, free internet…. and the list goes on. Bravo to all of the employees for making our stay so memorable. We sorely miss our Golden Well hotel rooms and we hope we can return.

  23. Prague Hotels Says:

This hotel deserves all the compliments it has received from everyone on this site! As a travel planner and writer, I have had the pleasure of staying in many boutique hotels across Europe and, hands down, Golden Well is one of the best. It is located on a secluded cobblestone street, practically in Prague Castle’s backyard. Check-in is like none other complete with a refreshing mint towel, welcome drink, and escorted tour of the property.

Rooms are more spacious than most European hotel rooms, and they are beautifully decorated. The service is equal to any 5-star hotel, and in some cases, even better. Wi-Fi is free and available throughout the entire hotel, coffee and pastry service is delivered to your room every morning (upon request), and there is a pillow and bedding menu to help you find the pillow that is “just right” for a good night’s sleep.

One of the coolest aspects of the hotel is its proximity to Prague Castle. And, for hotel guests, access to the castle is available through a private gate, eliminating the need to climb a very steep hill to enter the castle’s entrance.

The hotel’s restaurant is one of the best in the city. It is a little more expensive, but worth every penny. The view alone is worth dining here at least once. I did twice!

I highly recommend Golden Well and will definitely stay there again on future visits!

  24. Prague Hotels Says:

I just returned from four wonderful days in Prague and three nights at the Golden Well hotel. This trip was my 60th birthday celebration. Golden Well made it unforgettable. We had reserved the Romance Package and I do recommend it for anyone. We were met promptly at the airport, taken to the hotel, dozen roses waiting in the room, wine and cheese, bath with candles and rose petals, champagne and strawberries in the morning of my birthday – the list goes on and on.

I had my own travel agency for over 20 years. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels around the world, cruised a lot of ships but never have I received a service like at the Golden Well hotel! Of course the hotel only has 17 rooms but still, there never was a request which could not be filled and they filled the wishes I didn’t even know I had.

And The Terrace restaurant!! Trying to be a gourmet cook myself, I enjoyed the superb quality of the outstanding meals we had at the restaurant. The view matched the food – unbelievable. We could see the whole city beneath us and at night when the roof was taken back you could see the lights of the city, the lit walls of the castle and the stars above… It was my 60th birhtday but I felt like I was sixteen.
This hotel cannot be recommended for someone who likes grand chain hotels. This hotel is for the one who is looking for something different, special and extraordinary

  25. Prague Hotels Says:

This is the most fantastic hotel for a stay in Prague. Golden Well is in a unique and enviable location, adjoining the Prague Castle. The hotel terrace and restaurant provide beautiful views over the rooftops, cathedral spires and bridges of Prague. The quality of staff and service are unbeatable. The bedroom and bathroom were beautifully decorated, luxuriously comfortable and spotlessly clean with quality extras. The restaurant served an excellent breakfast and provided a gourmet menu/wine list for dinner…and the views are unforgettable. No request was too much trouble. We left reluctantly with beautiful memories indelibly etched and will definitely return to the Golden Well when visiting Prague.

  26. Prague Hotels Says:

I had already decided on the hotel we were going to stay in for my wife’s birthday and it was almost as an afterthought that I checked the reviews. I saw the headline reviews and the rating on the Golden Well and decided to check it out just for the sake of comparison.

Every hotel I looked at afterwards was a second best in comparison and so I booked in. Over a series of emails I agreed the details of the Romantic Escape package with the hotel and all was set. Everyone knows that to provide good customer service you have to not only meet but exceed the customers expectations. After the website, the reviews and the emails this wasn’t going to be easy for the Golden Well as my expectations were very, very high. And they didn’t meet my expectations. In fact they didn’t exceed them – they completely blew them out of the water!

I’m not going to give the full details of everything them did for us to make the stay the single best hotel experience we have ever had. Some of the personal touches were so unexpected and so sweet that it would be a shame to spoil them for anyone else planning to stay there. But it was absolutely perfect. From the pick up at the airport to the personal email from the manager after check out it is pretty much impossible to improve on. Staff were there when we needed them and invisible when we didn’t – immaculate service without the over the top “anything we can help you with / is everything to your satisfaction?” interference that you get in some chain hotels. The hotel itself was the same – immaculate and luxurious but no bling or nonsense. The whole thing was just end to end sophistication.

And that sophistication isn’t cheap. In fact by Prague standards it’s probably quite expensive. But value isn’t about the lowest price and I had no problem with paying the bill at the end of our stay because it was the best value for money I have ever had in a hotel.

If you are looking for a romantic break then this is really the only hotel that you need to look at – nothing else will be as good!

  27. Prague Hotels Says:

I don’t think I can add any thing different to the excellent reviews already. We have just returned from celebrating our 25th anniversary at this hotel. We chose the romantic package and it was just as it said- romantic!! The hotel food is excellent. It is a fantastic memory sitting having dinner looking out over the roof tops of Prague. Excellent service and staff. We can recommend.

Having just returned from a superb 3 night stay, I can only further endorse the many enthusiastic reviews posted here before me.

Having pre-arranged a Mercedes transfer from (and to) the airport we arrived at the hotel on a stiflingly hot Thursday afternoon to be greeted with extremely welcome cold towels. The check-in experience was a joy compared to the often curt and impersonal experience endured in many chain hotels – a half hour one-to-one affair which included a full hotel tour and welcome drink.

The location is second to none – in the shadow of Prague Castle, blessed with unparalleled views of the city, and no more than a 10 minute walk to Charles Bridge. The peaceful Mala Strana neighbourhood offered a welcome respite from the hurly-burly that is tourist Prague. The hotel makes great use of its location with both the breakfast room and terrace restaurant offering breathtaking vistas. We dined in the restaurant on 2 evenings and the standard was excellent if a little overpriced – perhaps you are paying a premium for the view. The hotel did recommend a nearly restaurant (Restaurant David) which was absolutely superb and well worth checking out. The breakfast could not be faulted.

Our room (no. 34) offered views of both the city and Petrin hill, and had a particularly spacious bathroom with cavernous corner jacuzzi bath. No effort was spared by the excellent staff in making our stay a memorable one, and there were some nice touches including champagne, strawberries and roses in our room on arrival (it was our Wedding Anniversary) and complimentary canapés and drinks at 4pm daily.

Undoubtedly one of the best hotel experiences I have had to date and one which I would wholeheartedly recommend to all!

From our initial communications with the hotel, through delivery to the airport after a four day stay, everything was exceptional. For a 30 Euro fee, you can reserve a specific room – on the recommendation of the concierge, we booked #35 — fantastic view of royal gardens adjacent to the castle, as well as the city below. Well appointed, down to the music selection on the ipod by the bed. I would recommend this room to anyone. We also booked the airport pickup/delivery service and were pleased — it made everything so easy. As others have noted, at least one dinner in the terrace restaurant is a must – good food and service; unparalleled view. The staff was consistently attentive and helpful. The location is perfect — the castle is accessible through a private back gate; the Charles Bridge is a five minute walk. We were in six countries on this trip — our visit to Prague was the highlight; and the Golden Well made it perfect.

The Golden Well Hotel enjoys an excellent location with stunning views over the city. The layout is reminiscent of a collection of houses with small courtyards on several levels which are joined at a central point housing the lift.

I recommend taking advantage of the transport that can be organised by the hotel for the trip from and to Prague airport. Not only is it efficient and comfortable (The car that met us was an E Class Mercedes) but the hotel is tucked away and I believe that we may have found it difficult to locate.

There is easy access to the Palace gardens from the top terrace, and Charles bridge is a little more that ten minutes walk down hill over cobbled streets.

The staff are attentive without being intrusive and the fabric of the hotel is finished to a high standard using traditional materials. Varnished oak has been used extensively throughout.

We just spent 6 nights in this boutique hotel and highly recommend it as it was the best hotel we’ve experienced. Besides being impeccably clean, the staff were pleasant, very accommodating, speaking perfect English and went out of their way to please us. Set high above all of Prague below the Castle walls, the views are breathtaking. The continental breakfast was excellent as well as the afternoon refreshments set up on the terrace made for a relaxing respite while looking out over the whole city.
This hotel is in a quiet area of Prague and the only drawback is the steep cobblestone hill to climb and no stand up shower, just a jacuzzi.

We stayed at the Golden Well July 8-11. Having read such great TripAdvisor reviews was the basis for our decision to stay here, although I have been disappointed in the past when choosing hotels based solely on reviews. I was not disappointed in The Golden Well – it was even better than I expected. I have traveled extensively and stayed at many great hotels, and I can easily say that the Golden Well is in my top three so far. The location is perfect, the views from our window and from the restaurant were amazing, and the service was top-notch. We booked a package deal which included a car transfer from the train station, a Prague Card for free/discounted admission to many sites and free public transportation, a discount at the hotel restaurant, and evening hors d’oeuvres in our room. The driver met us at the train station, even though our train was 45 minutes late. He was friendly and helpful. We arrived at the hotel at around 9:30 p.m., and Barbora greeted us with warm towels, cocktails, an informative review of the city map and a tour of the hotel. She answered all our questions and offered advice on things we would not have thought to ask about. Our room was beautiful, clean and comfortable, the bathroom had a jetted tub (no shower, just a detachable shower head in the bath, which worked fine) and they even offer to run a bath for you if, after a long day of sight-seeing, you want your bath to be waiting for you on your return. We ordered room service from the restaurant on the first night, due to arriving late and being exhausted and hungry. It was expensive, but delicious and promptly delivered. The hotel has a daily happy hour in the lounge where they serve drinks and hors d’oeuvres. We had dinner at the restaurant one night – I could have eaten there every night if it were not outside our budget! Wonderful food and service, and the view is surreal. There is a gate from the restaurant to the gardens of Prague Castle, so you can take a stroll before or after dinner and enjoy the views. All in all, it was a perfect stay, and we felt like everyone went out of their way to serve us and make sure we were happy. We dreaded leaving and will definitely return. Prague is a lovely city despite all the (other) tourists, and staying at The Golden Well definitely enhanced our experience and provided us with a quiet corner of the city to return to every night. It is a special hotel and it deserves the recognition and great reviews it gets on this site.

  33. Prague Hotels Says:

The hotel is in a stunning location with views across the rooftops of Prague and a useful entrance from the beautiful castle grounds. It is only a short walk to the Charles Bridge, leading to the old town square and the more commercial areas beyond. The ancient architecture of the building has been sympathetically converted to accommodate guests without losing the atmosphere of a private dwelling. Our room was spacious and beautifully appointed with a stylish en suite containing a whirlpool bath. We appreciated the efficient air conditioning on our return each day. My only minor gripe about the room would be the limited drawer space. We ate at the hotel restaurant only once, but it was worth the expense for the magical views and delicious gourmet food. Service from all of the staff was exceptional and I would thoroughly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Prague.

Just returned from 3 nights at the Golden Well. Had the priviledge of staying at The Oriental in Bangkok 20 years ago when it was the consensus finest hotel in the world.
I think the same people must be running this place. Level of service and attention to detail are flawless. Rooftop restaurant, while pricey, has great food and service and a “to die for” view. Location is great-a short walk to Old Town and Charles Bridge but out of the Tourist hubbub, and just below the Castle property. Note that the shortcut to the Castle thru the gate at the rooftop restaurant is controlled by the Castle and doesn’t open until 10:00.

We travelled to Prague from the UK by car, and so on arrival despite having stayed in a couple of other cities enroute, we were tired.

We had decided to chose Prague as a “Treat Destination” and therefore we trusted the comments on Tripadvisor and decided to book 3 luxury nights at this hotel. Truth is that we could have not chosen any better! The hotel was beautiful, the good care the staff took of us was unique, all the staff spoke very good English and, even the members of staff who didn’t, tried their best and made us feel more than special. We felt like our happiness really mattered to them, and such attention to details and customer service is very rare to find in the present world.

The locations of the hotel is ideal for the town centre, just a short walk away, and the hotel itself is attached to the gardens of the castle, offering exclusive access for its guests.
The hotel’s main door is magically hidden away, behind a very typical czech narrow street, so you can’t drive your car up to the door. However, there is always help available: when we arrived a young man rushed to meet us and helped us with our luggage, and then took care of our car which was parked aways safely in an indoor garage near by.

The room was amazing and the view of Prague from any of our windows was indescribible. As the hotel staff was aware of the special occasion behind our trip, they sent to our room a cake to celebrate our honeymoon, accompanied by the most beautfiul note (which will be forever saved in our wedding box).

For the first night we decided to treat ourselves to a special dinner at the restaurant of the hotel and, although maybe a little pricey, it was perfect. The food was very good, the location unbelievable (especially when the city lights start to come up in the dark) and the staff were very attentive and truly pleasant.

We were very sorry to leave, but we will forever treasure these memories in our hearts: it was one of the peaks of our honeymoon and we would love to go back again. We would defenitely reccommend it! Thank you to everyone at the Golden Well!!!

Can’t say enough positive things about this hotel. We stayed in Prague at the end of our 5 week trip and decided to treat ourselves by staying somewhere nice so decided on the Golden Well as recommended by Trip Advisor. Fantastic location just below the Prague Castle with views across the city. Hotel actually has a gate that allows you to enter the gardens of the castle. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful and the restaurant at the hotel is first class. There was no problem in catering for our vegetarian diet. The night was cool on the terrace restaurant so they provided wool rugs for our legs and had outdoor gas heaters going so the fantastic view could be enjoyed in comfort. The most comfortable beds with a pillow menu to choose from. Complimentary internet was very useful and every afternoon they had drinks and snacks for guests in a communal area. All this included in your hotel rate. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or stay here again

Golden Well is a well located, charming hotel. The food is very good, especially dinner which was excellent. Our dining experience was enhanced by the beautiful view from the restaurant, which overlooks Prague. The crowning hallmark of Golden Well is the exceptional service. It became clear right from the start of our visit that the staff takes a sincere and personal interest in ensuring that guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. In our case, my son and I had taken an overnight train from Krakow to Prague and arrived at Golden Well, a little bleary eyed, at 7:30 am. Knowing that check in was not until much later in the day, we showed up only planning to drop our bags off at the hotel before heading back out. However, Ayman, who was at the front desk that morning, gave us a warm welcome, advised us that two rooms had been vacated very early that morning and that he would immediately send housekeeping up to ready them for us so that we could have an early check in, get showered, rest etc. While waiting he had us relax in the restaurant and set us up with coffee, juice and coffee cake. When he was able, he joined us, provided a city map and some tour suggestions then gave us a brief hotel tour before guiding us to our rooms. By 8:15 we were all set in our very comfortable rooms and at no time did any staff betray even the slightest hint that our early arrival was in any way inconvenient . I should note that I am not sure that they can always accommodate such an early arrival, but it was an example of how eager they are to please.

In short, we would highly recommend Golden Well. Since there is a similarly named hotel in Prague, ensure that you are booking with the correct one and that your taxi driver (or whoever is providing transport) has the specific address.

Tucked away in the diplomatic and governmental area of Prague, the Golden Well is a cute little gem of a hotel. It’s tiny all around (narrow common areas, narrow halls, narrow steps, small spaces) but they make good use of the space. (Although the room we were in was a fairly decent size). The bathroom is modern and clean. The restaurant is on the top level and has a lovely panoramic view of the city. Breakfast is good, although a bit limited in options. Dinner was delicious. The staff is extremely curteous and friendly. There’s also a back entrance to the castle from the hotel from the very top floor. The hotel has a lovely decor and feel to it. Overall an excellent experience.

This is not a hotel for those who value a modern, business or ultra convenient situation. There is no gym/spa, only one computer, no business center, etc… try the Four Seasons instead but expect to pay an exhorbitant price. We had a small lunch there and it come to over $80 USD with no alcohol and no entrees – only two snacks.

One important note that I have not seen in any review and is good to know in advance: It’s not the easiest hotel to find as it is tucked away so well – in the tiniest of streets up a cobblestone hill with not very good signage. We were looking for a sign saying “Golden Well Hotel” but did not see one. Instead we only found a sign saying “U Zlate Studne – Terrace” which we thought was just the street name or possibly a restaurant of some sort. It’s also not possible for the taxi (or in our case our rental car) to make it all the way up the hotel’s entrance, so just be forewarned of that as well. I do not mention these as complaints at all, simply tips and things to be aware of.

  39. Prague Hotels Says:

While agreeing with other revewiers about the excellence of this hotel, I am surprised no one has mentioned the difficult access (perhaps someone has – I have to admit I haven’t read all 400+ reviews!) There is no vehicular access to the hotel and our taxi dropped us at the end of the alley leading to it, leaving us with a 50-metre or more walk uphill on cobbles with our baggage! I assume we could have avoided the problem by arranging for the hotel to meet us at the airport, but there was no mention in the hotel’s literature about the difficult access. Apart from this, we had an excellent stay at the Golden Well and heartily recommend it to other travellers. (It is very expensive, though).

Hi…Although there are certainly more than enough great reviews of this hotel to advise that this is an excellent place to stay, I just wanted to chime in with one more. From the excellent pick-up at the train station (and I mean right after exiting the train, avoiding the crowded terminal) to the orientation (and free drink!) upon arrival to (in my case) review a city map and advise about sightseeing plans and pointing out how to navigate the city (you can see everything from their terrace), my stay couldn’t have been better. And while the more seasoned travelers here might not be as impressed with the multitude of little things they do to make you feel welcome, I certainly was!

Next to the Castle, but only 10 minute walk to Old Town (or maybe 15 if you get lost easily like me), location is excellent.
Service, from the first inquiry email to walking down the cobblestone road to leave for the airport, was impeccable (including recommended room to select…room 35…awesome). Well, maybe the leaving part wasn’t so great (haha).
The restaurant was awesome, including the view at dusk and into night, with the lights of Prague below you.

Overall, a wonderful time and will definitely visit again (and someone can explain what a “pillow menu” is…wow)

  41. Prague Hotels Says:

The service and staff are fantastic. We were pleasantly surprised with the room size, since most rooms we have stayed in while in Europe were small. The food at the restaurant was tasty and adventurous (asparagus sorbet). The location is perfect, but definitely wear comfortable shoes. The staff did everything to make us feel special and very welcome. Our package included a full breakfast, a dinner one night, appetizers and drinks were available every night, the metro pass was great, but the museum pass was not very useful.

  42. Prague Hotels Says:

This hotel is so amazing. The location is within easy walk to the Prague Castle as well as the Charles Bridge. The staff is very accommodating and there to help you with every need. The restaurant has an incredible view of the city of Prague and the food is outstanding. Sitting up on the Golden Well Terrace and eating dinner with an incredible view of Prague was a delightful way to end a busy day of sightseeing. The rooms are plush in every way. Look into their romance package for a honeymoon or special anniversary celebration. You won’t be disappointed.

travel for work, spending more than 300 days away from home annually. By now, I’ve stayed at essentially every level of hotel throughout Europe and the US, from chain to boutique. but honestly, the Golden Well (GW) has outshone all!

The accommodations are very tasteful and unique – each room is furnished with beautiful antique pieces. The views are great as well, whether you have a garden/ courtyard view, or one overlooking the St. Nicholas church. The bathrooms are outfitted with the better smelling Molton Brown toiletries and the GW differentiates between those for men and women guests, meaning there were two types of body wash. A small and fairly insignificant detail, but how many other hotels think to do that? We stayed in room 31 and had views of the garden.

The service is truly outstanding and our needs were anticipated throughout the stay. The staff was very attentive without being intrusive and the hotel had many nice side benefits which we could enjoy… I’m not going to go through the entire list of mini services, but there was a comfortable and eclectically elegant lounge where we could always go for some fruit, or a fresh cup of tea or nespresso (you can also request to have a machine brought into your room) where during the afternoon other, more substantial and delicious sweet and savoury snacks would appear. There’s also a mini office with a computer for checking email, and while I don’t believe the rooms are internet equipped (could be wrong, was too lazy to work so I didn’t check), they will connect your work laptop to their service if needed.

The location is great – the hotel is 5 minutes walking distance away from Charles Bridge, a 5 minute climb up the stairs from the Prague Castle (of which the hotel is a part and thus enjoys a private set of stairs leading straight to the castle and allowing guests to avoid the 20 or so minute walk around) and is nestled at the end of a quiet street meaning that you won’t fall victim to drunken revelers, nor will you have masses of tourists roaming underneath your windows. Everything about the GW is pristine.

The food at the hotel restaurant is delicious. We had both, the included breakfast and had stayed for dinner. A note on the breakfast – the hotel has two options, the buffet, which is the included, and the a la carte, where items are somewhere in the 10 Euro range. The buffet is plentiful and will satisfy basically every food group need, but if you’re accustomed to a hot breakfast like scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes, etc, you’re going to need to go a la carte, so be ready. The food off the hot menu is smart and inventive. I tried the truffled egg omelet and it was perfectly flavoured and portioned. The food at dinner was probably more two-three times more expensive than the food in outside restaurants, but the view from the terrace is stunning and the fare itself is well worth it. Also, if it’s any consolation, I found Prague to be on the cheap side, so the two-three times more expensive is actually still reasonable, i.e. 30 Euro per main course.

So, overall, fantastic experience, will definitely be back!

As a side comment… The bar at the Mandarin Oriental Prague is very good, although the decor is not the most fitting for either the MO or for Prague (the hotel itself isn’t that spectacular) and if the Golden Well concierge sends you to David for food: GO without hesitation. It’s less expensive than the hotel restaurant and the food is a bit more Czech with fewer fusion influences.

esides the ideal location in Prague, (easy to walk or take a tram anywhere), the customer service was outstanding. All of the staff were genuinely happy to help in any way they could to make my stay wonderful. The hotel is surrounded by so many things to walk to and enjoy the best part of Prague.

  45. Prague Hotels Says:

We chose this hotel after reading tons of hotel reviews and based our decision on how the hotel responded to or corrected a problem a guest was having.

We had no problems, the hotel was everything we wanted. Our room was number 24. It provided enough space and every comfort we needed after full days of tourist activity. The bathroom was compact, but well-appointed. Our room did not have a fully enclosed shower

The staff was excellent. This hotel is at the end of a narrow alley that we did not think we could make the turn to drive down. So we parked and one of us walked up to the hotel and they came and took the car to parking and our luggage to our room.

At checkin the clerk took up the terrace restuarant and went over a map of Prague and where we were and covered many nice things to help us with our first stay in Prague.

We are not posting photos as others have posted photos that show the hotel well and the hotel website has an online brochure that accurately depicts it.

Never having traveled to Prague before, we had never heard of this hotel and selected it based on the reviews here — and it met all of our expectations — we echo all the positive reviews of this hotel. Having breakfast every morning looking out over the spires of the Golden City was splendid, a quiet location away from the tourist throngs, yet within walking distance of all you would want to see. The hotel’s restaurant is fabulous and is near other equally good restaurants. The staff was enthusiastic, always willing to help and smiling. A perfect place to stay in Prague.
